Data-sharing terms version data-sharing-2026-10-09

1. The short version

Your freight data is yours, and we use it to run Forensik for you. Under section 12 of our Terms of Service you also give us a licence to create de-identified, aggregated freight insights from service data, such as the typical fuel levy, cost per kilogram or rate on a lane across many shippers. We may use and commercialise those insights. They never identify you, your customers or your individual negotiated rates.

2. Who is included

Every organisation contributes by default, on every plan, unless its administrator has opted out in Settings. We record who opted out or back in, when, and under which version of these terms. The opt-out is checked every time benchmarks are built (daily), so an organisation that opts out is left out within 24 hours. Sample data and accounts that are no longer active are never included.

3. What is used

From the consignments, invoices and approved rate cards of included organisations, and only these:

  • the month shipped;
  • the origin and destination state and carrier zone (never a postcode, suburb or address);
  • the carrier and service type, as a platform code;
  • the rated weight band;
  • quoted, charged and billed amounts, delivery time, and the type of any variance the audit found;
  • approved rate card prices, worked out for a standard consignment in each weight band.

Receiver names, phone numbers, email and street addresses, order numbers, connote numbers and your organisation’s name are never used. Your rate card is never copied: rate figures are medians across organisations, rounded, and published only after a delay, so none shows what you pay a carrier.

4. How it is protected

  • Aggregated only. Results are medians, quartiles and averages across groups. No row about a single consignment or organisation is kept in the benchmark data.
  • Minimum contributors. A figure is produced only when at least 5 different organisations and 20 consignments contribute to it, and no organisation makes up more than 50% of it. Smaller groups are dropped, not shown.
  • Checked before it is stored. Every figure is checked before it is written. Anything carrying an organisation, a name, a postcode or free text stops the whole run.
  • Kept apart. Benchmarks live in their own database with their own logins, separate from customer data.
  • Never identifying. No benchmark identifies a customer or a consignee, and none can be used to work out what a particular customer pays a particular carrier. Our staff see figures grouped by carrier; anything we show outside Forensik will not name or identify a carrier either.

5. Who sees benchmarks

Today, only Forensik’s owner-level staff, inside our admin console, to understand the market and improve the product. Benchmarks are not shown to customers or offered to anyone else yet. Before we offer insights to customers or others, we will update this page, and the protections above will still apply.

6. Opting out

Any customer, on any plan, can opt out at any time: an administrator turns off benchmark contribution in Settings. Your data is left out of every benchmark built from then on, within 24 hours, and your own reports and analytics are not affected. Figures already built cannot be taken apart again, because they no longer contain anything that links back to you.

7. What we never do

  • Sell your data, or share identifiable data with carriers, other customers or advertisers.
  • Use your data to train AI models.
  • Use benchmarks to set your prices or rate cards.

How we handle personal information is in our Privacy Policy. Questions: (contact email to be confirmed).
