Wholesale freight recovery that follows the postcode

Example: a flat $25.00 ex GST freight recovery charge makes $4.00 ex GST on a $21.00 ex GST delivery around Melbourne, and loses $33.00 ex GST on a $58.00 ex GST consignment to Hobart. Fifty Hobart consignments a month costs $1,650.00 ex GST.

A flat recovery charge looks fair in a price list. Across Bass Strait, it hands your margin back.

Recovery charges

Your recovery charge is carrier cost x (1 + markup), worked from your approved rate card and fuel levy on the day. When the levy or the rate card changes and you approve it, the charge follows. Each version of a rule keeps its effective date, and a price once posted never moves.

Customer pricing by postcode

A postcode markup gives one SKU its own markup for each postcode or range, up to 500 rows. A postcode not in the table falls back to the category or global markup and is flagged. Postcode markups are on Growth and above.

Rules are set by SKU, category and postcode, not by customer: two customers in the same postcode get the same freight price for the same SKU. To agree a different figure with one account, enter the freight charged on that order.

See it by customer

Margin rollups groups freight by customer as well as by postcode, so you can see which accounts your recovery charge covers, and which it does not. A consignment carrying orders for several customers is split by their lines.

Worked example, with example numbers

Example numbers: one SKU with a postcode markup, sent from Melbourne. Postcodes 3000 to 3207 are set at 10% and 7000 to 7019 at 30%.

Around Melbourne: carrier cost $21.00 ex GST at 10% gives $23.10 ex GST.

To Hobart: carrier cost $58.00 ex GST at 30% gives $75.40 ex GST.

Geelong (3220) is not in the table, so it takes the category or global markup, and the price is flagged as a fallback so you can add the row.

Questions

Can I set freight per customer?
Not as a rule. Markups are by SKU, category and postcode. You can enter a different charge on an order, and Margin rollups shows the margin by customer.
How do trade orders get in?
From a CSV or Excel order file, or entered by hand. The file carries what the customer was charged for freight, ex GST, with GST in its own column.
What about mixed orders?
The consignment cost is shared across the lines by rated weight, and each share takes its own markup.
