Magento shipping rates from your approved rate cards

Example: a $45.00 ex GST table rate on a consignment that costs $96.00 ex GST to reach Darwin loses $51.00 ex GST. Forty of those a month is $2,040.00 ex GST.

Magento table rates are only as current as the last time someone rebuilt the file. A new fuel levy does not reach them by itself.

The extension

Forensik for Magento (module Forensik_Freight) works like the WooCommerce plugin: it holds one Forensik key, sends your orders to Forensik and asks for live rates at checkout. Forensik never holds your Magento admin credentials.

It runs on Magento Open Source or Adobe Commerce 2.4, on PHP 8.1 to 8.4, and Magento cron must be running. The extension is new: if anything does not behave as described, we will work through it with you or your developer. Live checkout rates are on Growth and above, and in the 14-day trial. On Starter, orders still come in and checkout uses your store's other shipping methods.

Store orders arrive without a connote. Forensik ties each carrier invoice line to its order by tracking number or order number where it has them. Any line it cannot tie waits on a review list for you to confirm, or for you to upload a list of orders and connotes.

Setup steps

  1. On Integrations in Forensik, download Forensik for Magento as a zip. You need to be a Master Admin with a verified email.
  2. Unzip it into app/code/Forensik/Freight, then run bin/magento module:enable Forensik_Freight, setup:upgrade and cache:flush. In production mode, also run setup:di:compile and setup:static-content:deploy.
  3. In Forensik, select Create key and copy it straight away. In the Magento admin, go to Stores, Configuration, Sales, Forensik, paste it and select Save Config.
  4. On the same page, press Test connection. The store shows as Connected and orders from the last 30 days are queued to send.
  5. For live rates, go to Stores, Configuration, Sales, Delivery Methods and set Forensik live rates to Enabled. Choose Ex GST or Inc GST under Checkout rates and set a fallback rate if you want one.

Which orders are sent

Orders in the processing, complete or holded states are queued, and cron sends them within about a minute. Failed sends are retried, and an hourly check queues recent orders that never made it. Forensik uses the delivery address and never receives the street, email or phone.

Worked example, with example numbers

Example numbers: an Adelaide business ships a consignment to Darwin with a carrier cost of $96.00 ex GST, at a 20% markup.

Forensik's price is $115.20 ex GST.

With Ex GST chosen, Magento adds GST through your shipping tax class: $11.52 ex GST of GST, $126.72 inc GST at checkout.

Questions

Does it work on Adobe Commerce?
Yes, version 2.4, as well as Magento Open Source 2.4. Settings are at the default scope only, so use one key per installation.
What if cron is not running?
Orders are sent by cron, so without it no orders reach Forensik. Check that Magento cron is running before you test the connection.
What if a rate cannot be priced?
The fallback rate shows if Forensik does not answer within the timeout (3 seconds by default), cannot price the cart, or errors. With no fallback, your other shipping methods apply.
