Import a rate card from Excel or CSV

Load a carrier's rate card files through the three-step import: choose the service, map the columns once, check the files and save a draft.

A rate card belongs to one carrier service. The import reads the carrier's own files, saves a draft version and changes nothing until that draft is approved. All amounts are dollars ex GST, in AUD.

Open Import rate card from the Rate cards page (/rate-cards/import), or from a service on its carrier's page. If you have no carrier file, fill in the standard Forensik rate card instead.

Step 1: Service and files

  1. Choose the Carrier service. The list shows which carriers have a ready-made template or a saved mapping.
  2. For Toll IPEC, Hunter Express and Bluestar, Layout of the files offers a ready-made template. Pick it, or My own layout (map the columns). A ready-made template lists the CSV files to download and fill in.
  3. Set Rates take effect on. A past date is allowed: approving it re-works the expected cost of consignments shipped since then. Prices already charged never change.
  4. Choose the files:
  • Postcode zones: one row per postcode range, with the zone code and postcode from and to (suburb optional).
  • Weight bands: one row per zone pair and weight band, with from zone, to zone, weight limits, base charge, per-kg rate and minimum.
  • Accessorials (optional): one row per surcharge, with code, charge type, amount, whether fuel applies and whether it is expected automatically.

Files can be .csv, .xlsx or .xls, up to 10 MB and 50,000 rows each. One workbook can hold all three sections: choose it for each and pick the sheet in step 2. Workbooks with macros or a password are not accepted.

Choose Read files.

Step 2: Map columns

Tell Forensik which column holds each field. Required fields are marked with a red asterisk. A preview of each file shows what is being read.

Set How this card rates:

  • Rating unit: per consignment (total weight) or per carton.
  • Cubic factor (kg per m³): 250 unless the carrier says otherwise.
  • Round rated weight up to: 1 g, 100 g, 250 g, 500 g or 1 kg.
  • Weight breaks: whole weight at its tier rate, or each slice at its own tier rate.
  • Band weights are in: kilograms or grams.

Choose Check files.

Step 3: Check

You see counts of zones, postcode ranges, zone pairs, weight bands and accessorials. If any row has a problem, the files are imported whole or not at all, so fix the rows and upload again. Problems with the card as a whole (gaps between weight bands, overlapping postcode ranges) still let you save a draft, but it cannot be submitted until they are fixed.

Leave Save this mapping and these settings ticked to reuse them next time for this carrier. If the carrier's columns change, the saved mapping no longer fits and you map again.

Choose Import as draft, then Review what changed and follow Rate card approval. The rate card in force stays live until the new version takes effect.

If an import is refused, see Rate card import errors.
