Read a rate card or fuel notice document

Upload a carrier's rate card or fuel notice as it came, in PDF, Excel or CSV. Forensik reads it with a template, or AI on Growth and above, into drafts.

Read a document (/rate-cards/read) takes the carrier's document as it came and turns it into drafts. Open it from the Rate cards page, or with Read a fuel notice on the Fuel levies page.

Read a document

  1. Choose the Rate card or Fuel notice tab.
  2. Choose the Carrier and the Service. For a rate card you can pick one service or Every service in the document. A fuel notice can apply to all services of the carrier or to one.
  3. Enter Effective from if you know it. Carrier templates do not carry a date, so enter one when a template will read the file.
  4. Upload the PDF, Excel (.xlsx or .xls) or CSV file, up to 20 MB. For a fuel notice you can paste the text from the carrier's email or website instead.
  5. Choose Read the rate card or Read the fuel notice.

The result says what read the file and how many drafts were made, with a link to open each one. Any service in the document that has no matching service in Forensik is listed as not drafted: add it under Carriers and rates and read the document again.

The order Forensik tries

  1. The standard Forensik rate card, if the file is one. See The standard Forensik rate card.
  2. The carrier's ready-made template. Toll IPEC has one for its Excel quote workbook. Hunter Express and Bluestar have templates for their PDF rate cards. A template reads one service at a time, so choose the service.
  3. Your learned template for the carrier, if an owner has approved one.
  4. AI reading by the Rate Card Agent, on Growth and above (including the free trial). It is told why the templates did not fit.

The Rate Card Agent can be switched off under Settings, AI agents. When it is off, or your plan does not include it, a file no template can read is refused. On Starter, use the column mapper on the Import a rate card page for Excel or CSV files.

Everything read is a draft

Nothing read from a document is used until it is approved. Check each value against the document, especially where the AI says it was not sure. The uploaded document is kept privately with the import, and the draft page has a link to download it. See Rate card approval.

Learned templates

When you approve a rate card the Rate Card Agent read for a carrier with no ready-made template, Forensik may learn where each value sits in that carrier's file. Only the layout is kept, never the values.

The layout waits on Learned templates (/rate-cards/learned-templates) until an owner decides. Only a Master Admin can Approve it, Reject it (a reason is needed) or later Retire it. Once approved, the carrier's next rate card is read by the learned template first, with no AI. If it no longer fits the file, the page shows why and the reader falls back to AI.

If a document is refused, see Rate card import errors.
