Fuel levies

Keep each carrier's fuel levy as its own versioned percentage, for all services or one, charged on the base only or on the base and fuelable accessorials.

Fuel levies live in their own section, separate from rate cards. Forensik adds the levy to the carrier cost of every consignment, so a consignment cannot be priced until an approved levy is in force for its carrier on the ship date.

Open Fuel levies in the sidebar (/fuel-levies). You need the Master Admin or Editor role to make changes.

Add a fuel levy

  1. Choose Add fuel levy.
  2. Choose the Carrier.
  3. Under Applies to, choose All services of the carrier, or one service only. A levy for one service wins over the carrier-wide levy for that service.
  4. Check the Name and choose Add fuel levy.

The levy has no percentage yet. Add one as a version.

Add a version

On the levy, choose New version and enter:

  • Levy (%), for example 19.8. If a levy is live, the dialog shows the change in percentage points.
  • Applies to: Base charge only, or Base and fuelable accessorials. Fuelable accessorials are the surcharges marked "fuel applies" on the rate card.
  • Takes effect on: the date the percentage starts.

Choose Save draft. The version goes live only once approved, on its date.

To load many changes at once, choose Import schedule and upload the carrier's fuel table (.csv, .xlsx or .xls). Map the effective date, percentage and, if present, what it applies to. Each row becomes a draft version, rows that do not change the percentage are skipped, and the file is imported whole or not at all.

Read a fuel notice

Choose Read a fuel notice to upload the carrier's notice as a PDF, Excel or CSV file, or paste its text. Forensik reads the percentage and date into a draft. If the notice does not say what the levy is charged on, the draft uses the base charge only and asks you to check. See Read a rate card or fuel notice document.

Approve

Each draft shows Submit. A submitted version shows Approve and Reject. The person who entered a version may approve it, and both are recorded. On Starter, Submit publishes the version in one step.

The current levy stays live until the new one takes effect. Approving a past date re-works the expected fuel cost of consignments shipped since then; prices already charged do not change. See Rate card approval.

Each row shows the version's status, percentage, change against the live levy, what it applies to, when it is in force and who entered and approved it. The history button opens its change log.

The standard Forensik rate card can also carry fuel levy rows, which become draft versions here.
