Passwords and signing in

How to reset a forgotten password, change your password, sign out on every device, and how account lockout and request limits protect your sign-in.

You sign in to Forensik with your email address and password. Passwords must be at least 8 characters.

Forgot your password

  1. On the sign-in page, click Forgot password? next to the password box, or go to /forgot-password.
  2. Enter your email address.
  3. Open the email and follow the link to choose a new password.

For your privacy, the page says the same thing whether or not an account exists for that email.

The reset link:

  • works once only
  • expires after 1 hour
  • replaces any earlier reset link you asked for, so only the newest one works

Setting a new password signs you out on every device and clears any lockout on your account. Then sign in with the new password.

Change your password

  1. Open Settings.
  2. In Sign-in security, enter your Current password and a New password of at least 8 characters.
  3. Click Change password.

You stay signed in on this device, and you are signed out on your other devices.

Sign out everywhere

In Settings, under Sign-in security, click Sign out everywhere and confirm. Every session you have, including this one, ends at once. Use it if you signed in on a shared computer or think someone else has your password, then change your password.

Account lockout

After 5 wrong passwords in a row, your account is locked for 15 minutes. During that time even the right password is refused with "Account temporarily locked after too many failed attempts. Try again later." Wait 15 minutes, or reset your password, which clears the lock.

Request limits

To stop people guessing passwords, Forensik limits how often the sign-in and password pages can be used from one internet address and for one account. For example, sign-in allows 10 tries a minute from one address, and only 5 wrong passwords from one address in 15 minutes. Forgotten password requests are limited to 3 an hour for one email. Over a limit, you see "Too many requests. Please wait and try again."

Two-factor sign-in

Customer accounts do not have two-factor sign-in. Use a long password you do not use anywhere else, and use Sign out everywhere if you are unsure who has access.

Several organisations

If your login belongs to more than one organisation, Forensik asks which one to open after your password is accepted.

Still stuck

If you cannot sign in, see Sign-in problems. You can use Contact support without signing in.
