Set your markup rules
How Forensik turns carrier cost into your customer's freight price, with global, category and SKU markups, effective dates and bulk edits by CSV.
Markups decide what Forensik says your customer should pay for freight. They live on the Pricing page (/freight-pricing). Only a Master Admin can change them.
The formula
Customer freight price = carrier cost ex GST x (1 + markup).
The carrier cost is the base charge from the rate card, plus the fuel levy, plus any accessorials the rate card expects automatically and their fuel. GST is worked out separately on top of the price when your organisation is GST registered. All amounts are AUD.
For example, a carrier cost of $20.00 ex GST with a 25% markup gives a price of $25.00 ex GST.
Three levels
- Global markup: applies to every SKU without its own or a category markup. Every organisation starts with a global markup of 0%, which passes the carrier cost straight through. Set it to your real margin.
- Category markup: applies to every SKU in the category. A category without one shows Follows global. Categories come from your SKU catalogue.
- SKU markup: applies to one SKU wherever it goes. A SKU can instead use a postcode markup or free freight.
Forensik uses the SKU's own setting first, then its category, then the global markup.
Starter includes global and category markups. SKU and postcode markups are on Growth and above; any you set earlier keep working.
Change a markup
- Choose the pencil beside the global markup, a category or a SKU.
- Choose Markup on cost (or SKU markup on a SKU) and enter the percentage, from 0 to 999.9999.
- Set Effective from, or leave it blank for now. A markup cannot start in the past.
- Add a note if you like, then choose Save new version.
Saving adds a new version. Earlier versions stay as they were, and prices already posted never change. A change set for a future date shows on the page under the current markup, starting with "From" and the date. The history button lists every version.
Which rule applies?
Choose Which rule applies? (or the search icon on a SKU row). Pick a SKU, a destination postcode and optionally a carrier service and warehouse, then Show rule and price. You see the rule chosen and a worked price for one unit: base, fuel levy, expected accessorials, carrier cost, markup, price ex GST, GST and the total.
Bulk edit SKU markups
- Choose Export SKU markups. The CSV has
sku_code,mode,percentandfree_freightfor every active SKU. - Change
mode(SKU_MARKUP, POSTCODE_MARKUP or blank),percent, orfree_freight(true or false). - Choose Import CSV.
Each changed SKU gets a new version effective now. Unchanged rows are skipped. The import is all or nothing: if any row has an error, nothing changes. Postcode tables are edited on the page, not in the CSV. Import CSV is not available on Starter.
