The setup checklist
The six steps on the Setup page that take a new organisation to its first answer about what freight really made, and how to skip and come back.
The Setup page at /onboarding lists six steps, in the order Forensik needs your data. Each step shows what you have so far, for example "2 carriers ready" or "No rate cards loaded yet". A step ticks itself off as soon as the data is there; you do not mark anything done by hand.
The progress bar at the top shows how many steps are done. You can come back to the checklist any time at /onboarding, and empty pages around the app link to the step that fills them.
The six steps
(a) Business details
Your business name, ABN (optional) and business address: suburb, state and postcode. If you enter an ABN it must be 11 digits and a valid ABN. The address is needed to finish this step.
(b) Connect your store
Connect Shopify, install the WooCommerce plugin or the Magento extension, or import your orders from a CSV or Excel file on the Orders page. The step is done once a store is connected or at least one order is loaded. See Connect Shopify, Connect WooCommerce and Import orders.
(c) Add your carriers
Add each carrier you ship with: the carrier name, your account number and the carrier's customer service email. The email is required because it is where overcharge claims go. The step is done when at least one carrier has a customer service email; the progress line names any carrier still missing one. Services and fuel levies are added under Carriers. See Add a carrier.
(d) Load your rate cards
Upload each carrier's rate card as Excel or CSV with the template, or upload the standard Forensik rate card. On Growth and above (your trial included) you can also upload a PDF for the Rate Card Agent to read. The step is done once any rate card version is loaded, but prices only use approved versions. See Import a rate card.
(e) Set your markup rules
Forensik suggests two starter rules:
- a global markup of 20% on carrier cost
- a remote postcode surcharge of 15 percentage points on top, for remote areas such as the Northern Territory, the Pilbara and Kimberley, and Cape York
Edit the numbers if you like, then select Accept these rules. Nothing is saved until you do. The remote surcharge is a postcode rule (Growth and above) set on each SKU without its own rule, so add your SKUs first. Past prices never change. See Set markup rules.
(f) Import 90 days of carrier invoices
Pull the last 90 days of invoices from each carrier portal and import them on the Invoices page. Every line is matched to its consignment and checked against your rates. The progress line tells you how many days your invoices cover so far.
Skip for now
Open any step that is not done and select Skip for now to move to the next open step. Skipped steps show "Skipped for now"; open one again whenever you are ready. The checklist picks up where you left it, even after you sign out.
Your first freight answer
When steps (b) to (f) all have data, a box appears at the top of the checklist: "Your first freight answer is ready". Select Show me to open /onboarding/first-value, which shows for the last 90 days, ex GST:
- Freight charged, Carrier cost and Freight margin
- Under-quotes found: consignments charged below cost or below your markup price
- Overcharges found: invoice lines billed above your approved rates
These figures are shown side by side and never added into the margin. If something is still missing, the page lists the steps to finish first.
